The Silicon Age - Part1: Obesity

Prologue:
In the literary tradition of describing portions of history (e.g. The Stone Age, The Bronze Age, etc.), I decided to put down on paper my theory of the current historical period that I have dubbed The Silicon Age, and the factors that I believe will result in its sudden decline in the mid-21st century. This is just one man's theory - so take it or leave it.

Part 1: Obesity
Since the beginning of time, well up and into the 20th century, being 'overweight' was a sign of opulence - for only those that were wealthy and powerful enough, were able to obtain more-than-necessary sustinance wto become overweight.

Beginning just last century, a change in the world, and certainly Western society, has led to abundant sustinance from a multiplicity of sources - most of which are manufactured 'food-stuffs'. This has led to the masses becoming essentially 'addicted' to these manufacured foods, resulting in a society freakishly overweight, especially over the past 20 years.

And obviously, the single most important substance of this 'age', Silicon, has a lot to do with the obesity plague. Our society has become immensly lazy, exhibting a sloth-like exhibited by do many people. Everything has become automated, autoconditioned and autodelivered. Silicon, the exact same vehicle that contributed to a wealth of information being available to nearly the entire population of the world, has deteriorated our minds and bodies at exactly the same right.

Relying on such devices as cars, microwaves, telephones, computers and, of course, televisions, for everything from our very basic of necessities to an inherited necessity of virtual entertainment and travel, has turned our world upside-down.

This last vice, a dependant upon manufactured inanimate objects, has become less a sign of vanity, and more a sign of humanity.

Please stay tuned for The Silicon Age - Part2: Dependence
